Job Description

Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH), located in Sydney, Nova Scotia, is seeking a full-time Orthopaedic Surgeon. This position is available immediately for the right candidate who has Royal College Canada certification and eligible for license with College of Physician Surgeons Nova Scotia. The successful applicant will be part of a group of six serving the Cape Breton Regional Municipality and the surrounding communities with a catchment area of over 150,000.

There is opportunity to have medical teaching positions with Dalhousie University, should that be of interest. 

Cape Breton Regional Hospital is a 250-bed tertiary care institution that provides a broad range of medical care to patients in the Eastern Zone of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.  The Surgical service at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital is equipped to provide a full range of specialized care.

Responsibilities

  • Duties include full scope of practice as an Orthopaedic surgeon providing care to patients within the Eastern Zone and participating in emergency trauma call with an elective subspecialty focus on sports medicine and primary knee arthroplasty.
  • The physician will be responsible to the Zone Department Head of Surgery for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority. 
  • An expectation that the successful candidate lives full-time in the community.
  • Provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level health care. 
  • Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority. 
  • Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities. 

Expected Hours

  • Permanent Full-Time
  • 1:6 On Call Coverage
