Job Description

The Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH) is seeking a full-time Neonatologist to join their team of 3. The successful candidate will join the current 6 physician Pediatrics team in Eastern zone. The CBRH has a 10 bed Neonatal Intensive care unit along with an 8-bed pediatrics unit. On average 1000 deliveries take place at the CBRH each year with numbers steadily increasing. The opportunity is available immediately.  

Responsibilities

  • Neonatal clinical care — Attend deliveries and provide care for patients of any gestational age who require NICU services.
  • Weekday in‑house coverage — Provide in‑house daytime coverage Monday to Friday for all neonatal services across the NICU, LDR/OR, Mother–Baby Unit, and the perinatal clinic. Daytime coverage is shared equitably among the neonatologists.
  • Teaching responsibilities — Supervise and teach residents and medical students. Teaching remuneration is provided.
  • Provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level health care. 
  • Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority. 
  • Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities. 

Expected Hours

  • Weekday schedule — Five days per week of in‑house daytime coverage.
  • On‑call duties — After‑hours, weekend, and holiday call is from home.
    • First call for critically ill neonates and deliveries <30 weeks.
    • Second call when the pediatrician on call that covers NICU needs help
  • Call rotation — The on‑call schedule is organized by the neonatologists and shared equitably to ensure 365‑day coverage.
