The beach- and golf-resort community of Inverness is looking for 2-3 physicians to join their rural generalist team in the full scope care of Inverness County. At present all local physicians collectively share coverage of our Community Health Centre, Emergency Room, 32-bed in-patient unit, and Longterm Care Facility. As a team we are proud to provide full scope 24/7 care to our community. There is flexibility to share the services should full-scope not align with your practice.
Join Nova Scotia's thriving healthcare ecosystem, where your expertise is valued and your contributions drive innovative, compassionate care for generations to come.
Responsibilities
Hospitalist Medicine - Inverness
Our Community Health Centre operates on a shared care model employing physicians, nurse practitioners and family practice nurses, as well as mental health counselors and a dietician, and anticipated addition of a social worker and midwives to the interdisciplinary team in the near future. At present all physicians rent office space in the Health Centre.
The Community Health Centre is physically connected to the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital allowing convenient access to lab, imaging and in-patient units as needed. The hospital also includes an Ambulatory Care department where physicians can perform small procedures such as excisions, IUD insertions and administration of liquid nitrogen with ease.
Inverness physicians provide coverage for our 32-bed in-patient unit, facilitating care close to home for local residents. In general, physicians provide care to patients from their own family practice should they require admission, round prior to starting clinic in the morning and field phone calls from the floor during the day. Urgent nighttime and weekend coverage is provided by the physician covering the Emergency Room.
Emergency Medicine - Inverness
Our physician team is proud to operate our Emergency Room 24/7 year-round. With full time access to lab and X-ray services, including CT scanner, we provide a vital source of emergency care to Western Cape Breton. At present, shifts are 12-hour solo coverage and are compensated hourly.
Split Flow/Lower Acuity Emergency Medicine - Inverness
We have double-coverage for peak hours in the ER and expect there will be opportunities for physicians to take shifts treating triage level 4 and 5 patients (similar to an Urgent Care or Rapid Assessment population) in the emergency room alongside another physician who would manage higher acuity cases. Physicians practicing in Inverness could pick up Split Flow/Lower Acuity shifts in addition to a local family practice.
The team is keen to support physicians new to emergency medicine to enhance your skills and comfort in this exciting and vital area of rural health care.
Expected Hours
Full-time hours available 37.5 hours/week 46 weeks/year
