Cape Breton Regional Hospital opened its door to patients in 1995. Now, it is the second largest acute care facility in Nova Scotia that serves more than 200,000 patients a year. It is part of a four-hospital complex that also includes Glace Bay, New Waterford Consolidated, and Northside General Hospitals. Located in the historic town of Sydney, CBRH has 162 acute care beds, 36 emergency beds, 23 intermediate and critical care beds, 40 maternal child beds, 52 mental health and addiction beds, and nine palliative care beds. Job Description
About the Opportunity
CBRRH is seeking a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certified ophthalmologist to work alongside four other comprehensive ophthalmologists, each with their own private, fee-for-service practices.
The position is suited to a true comprehensive ophthalmologist, providing general ophthalmic care for medical glaucoma, retina, cornea, uveitis, low vision, lids and cataracts. Interest or additional training in glaucoma and/or oculoplastics would be an asset.
The Operating Room, located at CBRH and Glace Bay has an outstanding surgical support staff. There is OR time available for cataract surgery.
The Dalhousie Eye Care Centre (NSEC/IWK) is located in Halifax, approximately four hours away, and provides extensive sub-specialty care.
The successful applicant will be a strong patient-oriented team player who can interact successfully with other team members.
Responsibilities
- work as a full scope of practice ophthalmologist to provide care to the patients within the Eastern Zone
- support the Nova Scotia Health Authority in advancing the delivery of specialty care by liaising with the applicable staff within the zone and province
- provide consultation support to the Eastern Zone, which includes day-time coverage and occasional overnight/weekend coverage
- be accountable to the patient population in the Eastern Zone by providing care to the local population
- be responsible to the Zone Surgery Department Head for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
- operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority
Qualifications
All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
- all specialists must be certified with Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
- membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
