Company Description
Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH) is seeking a full-time Hematopathologist with FRCPC certification or equivalent, based in Sydney, Nova Scotia. General pathologists with FRCPC certification and additional training or interest in additional training in Hematopathology are encouraged to apply. CBRH is the second largest hospital in Nova Scotia and delivers a full spectrum of services including an expanded Cancer Care center, intensive care, and outpatient care. This role will provide oversight for laboratory hematology/transfusion services for the Eastern Zone of Nova Scotia which includes a dozen healthcare sites that CBRH serves as the referral center for.
The successful candidate will be a member of the Central Zone Division of Hematopathology and have opportunities for academic collaboration with this group. A new campus of Dalhousie Medical School is scheduled to open in Eastern Zone in 2025 providing opportunities for teaching and mentorship.
For candidates with leadership experience or training, the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is also seeking a Department Head or Associate Dept. Head. This is not a requisite for the role but is an asset.
Job Description
Responsibilities
- Medical oversight of hematopathology/transfusion medicine services for Eastern Zone of Nova Scotia. This is a co-leadership role with Operations Managers.
- Collaboration/coordination with the Central Zone Division of Hematopathology
- Interpretation of Peripheral Blood Smears
- Participation in the Provincial Hematology and Transfusion Medicine Committees
Qualifications
- All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
- FRCPC or equivalent in Hematopathology OR FRCP in General Pathology with additional Training (or willingness to train) in Hematopathology
