The Dartmouth General Hospital (DGH) is an acute-care regional hospital situated within the Halifax Regional Municipality. With a recent expansion to 180 beds, DGH boasts a newly renovated 8-bed medical/surgical/cardiac Intensive Care Unit and plans to add a 6-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) in the near future. The hospital's busy Emergency Department sees 47,000 visits annually, and DGH is renowned for its collegial atmosphere and robust in-house regional supports.

Job Description

Location: Dartmouth General Hospital, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Start Date: April or May 2025

We are seeking a locum emergency physician to join our dedicated team at DGH. The locum position offers flexibility with an end date that can be negotiated, and offers the potential to join the group in a permanent position. The role involves providing high-quality emergency care to patients, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive emergency medical care to patients
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records

Qualifications

  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
  • Emergency Medicine/FRCP certification preferred; other training backgrounds with relevant Emergency Department experience will be considered
  • Strong clinical skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
