Permanent Full-Time (80 hours bi-weekly)

 

ABOUT ALDERWOOD:

Alderwood cares for 70 residents across Nursing Home and Residential Care. Our home is divided into six distinct home areas: five Nursing Home (11 12 residents each) and one Residential Care (11 residents). All residents have private rooms and bathrooms to ensure their comfort and dignity, and Alderwood’s Home Areas are designed to create a genuine sense of belonging for our residents. We are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for our residents supporting their mental, physical, spiritual, emotional, and social well-being through compassionate, person-centered care. ABOUT THE ROLE:

Alderwood is seeking a dedicated, long-term leader who is committed to growing with our organization and making a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents. This person will provide thoughtful, and strategic direction, as part of the Senior Leadership Team. The Director of Care (DOC) plays a key leadership role in supporting resident-centered care and the overall operations of the home. Working closely with the Clinical Nursing Manager, the DOC ensures clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and continuous quality improvement. Together, these roles provide guidance, support, and oversight to care teams, ensuring residents’ needs are met with compassion, professionalism, and accountability. This role holds primary responsibility for the operation and leadership of the Nursing Department, ensuring provision of comprehensive nursing and Allied health services to all residents which meet the Mission, Vision, and Values of Alderwood. This role is ideal for a leader who is motivated by optimizing operations while maintaining a warm, homelike environment for residents and staff. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all clinical and care operations.
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders to optimize operational efficiency and resident outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, licensing standards, and quality initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports and frontline staff.
  • Oversee staffing and workforce planning to meet resident care needs.
  • Allocation and monitoring of both fiscal and personnel resources.
  • Implement and monitor policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement.
  • Support strategic initiatives to enhance resident experience and organizational performance.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current License with NSCN.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to co-ordinate, supervise and oversee a comprehensive nursing care program.
  • Show a proven track record of leadership in a team setting.
  • Clinical experience in a long-term care setting an asset. Minimum 5 years nursing experience.
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with use of technology as part of operations, with a working knowledge of computers (i.e. Microsoft Office applications, healthcare management software, scheduling programs).
  • Adheres to the Director of Care roles and responsibilities in the Job Position Outline.
  • Skilled in problem solving, flexible, strong organizational skills and adherence to timelines.
  • History of satisfactory attendance and capable to meet the demands of the job.
