Director of Care

Permanent Full Time, 80 hours bi-weekly

 

North Queens Nursing Home is a 44-bed Long Term Care Facility located in Caledonia, Nova Scotia. Caledonia is a rural community of Queens County, close to Kejimkujik National Park, and in close proximity to both the South Shore and Annapolis Valley. North Queens Nursing Home considers the needs of our residents as a whole, considering their social, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Care works collaboratively with Management and Nursing teams, to provide resident-centered care.

 

Responsibilities

The Director of Care is responsible to plan, administer and evaluate all aspects of the nursing department, ensuring quality resident care and nursing standards are maintained at all times. All programs directed at optimizing residents’ wellbeing are responsible to the Director of Care. The Director of Care communicates and promotes relationships with residents, families, staff and external organizations to meet the needs of the residents, as well as the values of the Home. The Director of Care is a member of the management team, working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary manner.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
  • Minimum 5 years nursing experience
  • 3-5 years previous management experience, preferably in long term care
  • Previous experience in a unionized environment an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and computer skills
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to inspire and empower staff
  • Genuine care and interest working with the elderly, with a resident centred care approach
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing quality care for the residents, to preserve their right to a life of dignity and to recognize their individual needs.

 

Salary: based on Department of Seniors and Long-term Care funding, with competitive benefits
