About the Opportunity

Location: IM/IT supports a hybrid work model to include work from home and mandatory in-office attendance.  

Teams Recruiting for Co-Op Positions:

Information Management & Technology (IM/IT) is recruiting students for 2026 Fall co-op/internships (14-16 weeks). IM/IT is the host organization for clinical application and health information services support across Nova Scotia. The team supports clients across Nova Scotia, including: Nova Scotia Health, IWK Health, primary care physicians, health care providers and retail pharmacies.


IM/IT comprises multidisciplinary teams including:

  • IT Clinical Solutions: This team provides ongoing IM/IT operational support, clinical documentation, workflow, process development, data management, standardization, and rationalization to ensure continuous process improvement. 

  • IM Clinical Solutions – the health information management (HIM/HIS) team provides leadership and support in the managing of health information including activities around the various modes of registration; admissions; switchboard; locating; paging; public address systems; as well as, monitoring/evaluating health information documentation and confidentiality of patient information requests; retention, storage and destruction of health information; managing submissions reporting to local, provincial, national levels.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • You are currently completing undergraduate level or master’s level studies or professional program and are a student from relevant health, informatics, engineering, business/commerce, or sciences faculty.
  • You are a student at a technical college or program focused on health informatics, data analytics, information management and technology, logistics, or business/commerce.
  • Interest in digital health, clinical workflows, healthcare transformation, logistics, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team and adapt well to complex and fast paced environments, and comfortable working in loosely structured environments.
  • Skills in one or more of the following: data entry, testing and validation; health information management; process mapping; standard operating procedure and process development; records management; ticket queue management; standardization and rationalization to ensure continuous process improvement
  • The following skills/knowledge would be considered as assets:
    • Project management skills
    • Previous role in a clinical health care setting
    • Experience working with clinical data, ability to discern clinical data elements and categorize, ability to identify overall themes
    • Experience or familiarity with digital health systems (e.g. Oracle Health/Cerner, Meditech, etc.)

Hours

  • Temporary full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
  • Term: Fall 2026 (September - December)

Compensation and Benefits

$22.00 hourly + 4% in lieu of benefits and vacation. Wages are matched to academic program agreements.
