About the Opportunity

We are excited to be growing our Mental Health and Addictions team and are actively recruiting Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs) to join us. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a collaborative and evolving program, delivering high quality, patient-centred care in diverse and rewarding clinical environment across Nova Scotia. 

 

Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) is a member of the Mental Health and Addictions team. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse provides assessment and planning, treatment and intervention, and crisis management for clients. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse carries out the general duties required of the mental health and addictions nursing team but in addition to those duties, participates in quality initiatives in the program of care, engages in collaborative person-centred care, and uses available information technology to support best practice.

 

The Registered Psychiatric Nurse utilizes psychiatric nursing processes through critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making, as well as teaching, counselling, and advocating on behalf of patients and their families. Registered Psychiatric Nurses provide safe, quality, family-centred care from a trauma-informed lens.

 

A Registered Psychiatric Nurse in Mental Health and Addictions, practices in accordance with the Nova Scotia Nurses College adhering to the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. Registered Psychiatric Nurses practice within the policies and procedures of the Nova Scotia Health Authority and are responsible for acting professionally and being accountable for their own practice. 

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Psychiatric Nursing required
  • Eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) required
  • Two (2) years recent clinical experience specific to Mental Health & Addictions
  • BLS-C (HCP) Certification required
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NCVI) required
  • Suicide Risk Assessment and Intervention Certification or willingness to obtain 
  • Experience in working with high risk clients
  • Ability to work effectively in multiple software applications

Hours

Various permanent, assignments (temporary), casual relief (no guarantee of hours), and opportunities available in various locations throughout Nova Scotia.

Shifts may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.


Compensation and Benefits

Registered Psychiatric Nurse:

$40.55 - $49.99 hourly ($79,072 - $97,480 Annually) 

$51.74 Hourly with 25 years' RN experience

 

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan. (Permanent and Long Assignments Only)
