The Opportunity
In partnership with the Manager, Policy and Nursing Enhancements and reporting to the Clinical Manager of the designated department; and under the functional supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), the Undergrad Student Nurse (USN) is an unregulated direct care provider who works as a member of the healthcare team providing safe patient care while utilizing the nursing process. The USN works in a collaborative practice environment, with various health care providers and is accountable to provide competent, safe, and ethical professional practice to individuals, families, and groups.
USNs work within a collaborative practice model and adhere to their professional scope of practice for their professional programs and scope of employment to:
- Deliver patient care at the level of their competency,
- Develop core competencies and practice as required, in collaboration with supervising RN/LPN,managers or delegate
- Apply acquired technical knowledge to practice within the parameters of the work scope
- Contribute to program development, implementation and evaluation as required.
The positions offered will go through a selection/matching process for particular inpatient units throughout IWK Health.
Hours of Work
7.5 or 11.25 hour shifts, Days/Evenings/Nights
Your Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), or a Bachelor of Nursing (BN) Program
• Completed a minimum of 440 clinical practice hours, as part of the Nursing Program currently enrolled in
• All mandatory pre-clinical requirements obtained:
o OHSW requirements
o Current BLS
