About the Opportunity
Under the direction of the Manager - Child & Adolescent, Mental Health and Addictions the Community Outreach Worker is responsible for providing outreach services, including group programming, brief and early intervention, and case management for youth at-risk. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Community Outreach Worker must be knowledgeable and utilize principles from harm reduction, community development, health promotion, and trauma informed practice. The Community Outreach Worker provides a wide range of services in rural schools and communities, including screening, assessment, referral, early and brief intervention, and group programming. The Community Outreach Worker must have excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work
- Registered with relevant regulatory body Nova Scotia College of Social Workers
- One (1) year post BSW experience in community outreach, group facilitation, early/ brief intervention, youth engagement and community development (experience must be specific to working with youth at-risk)
- Knowledge regarding the principles of community health, outreach, harm reduction, health promotion and prevention (e.g., mental health, addictions, housing support etc.)
- High level oral, written and group facilitation skills along with excellent problem-solving skills and experience with conflict resolution
- A well-developed awareness of community resources
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with limited supervision
- High level of Computer software knowledge (PowerPoint, Excel, and willingness to learn ASSIST Training)
- Non-violent crisis intervention, Standard First Aid, CPR, suicide risk assessment and intervention training, Mental Health First Aid required
- Demonstrated ability to function and participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Annually access the training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available by Nova Scotia Health
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation where travel will be required
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

- Permanent, full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
Compensation and Benefits
$35.12 - $45.91 Hourly
