The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Genomics, the Clinical Genomics Technologist II is responsible for the prompt, efficient, and accurate performance, validation, and reporting of laboratory test results, which are utilized to support clinical care as well as academic and research needs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performs various analytical techniques and acts as a technical resource for staff
- Assists in prioritizing/organizing workload to ensure compliance with established turnaround times for results reporting, in collaboration with Manager and/or lab medical/scientific staff
- Participates in, or acts as a resource person for, method and technical development, optimizing and improving current methods/techniques and introducing new testing platforms
- Operates and monitors laboratory equipment/instruments and collaborates with manager on supply management
- Coordinates and participates in QA/QC procedures and documentation to support Accreditation
- Performs duties in compliance with established operational policies, procedures and protocols and in accordance with safety guidelines and legislation pertaining to health care (i.e. WHMIS, TDG, OHS, waste management)
Hours of Work
Monday – Friday; 7.5 hrs/day; Weekend and call back as required.
Your Qualifications
- Graduate from a recognized Clinical Genetics training program required.
- Demonstrates ability to research/evaluate new methodologies/instruments with little or no supervision.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure with Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technology (NSCMLT) required.
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates effective problem solving, organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a collaborative team environment.
- Candidates must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to technical expertise and professional development
- Competencies in other languages an asset.
