About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager (HSM), the staff perfusionist and The Department of Perfusion Services (Perioperative Care Division) supports patients undergoing Cardiac surgery through the provision of cardiovascular perfusion services at the Halifax Infirmary (adult), and the Isaak Walton Killam Health Center (pediatrics). The department provides cardiopulmonary bypass for approximately 1100 cases per year.
 

Perfusion services also provides support for ECMO, Sugarbaker procedures, ventricular assist devices, balloon pumps and blood recovery systems for a variety of procedures including liver transplant. Support is provided at both the adult and paediatric sites.
 

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Perfusion Technology.
  • Certification with the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion, or Canadian certification eligible (with a requirement to obtain this certification within the first two years of employment)
  • Certification with the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion with proof of eligibility for Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion prior to employment (Canadian certification must be obtained within the first two years of employment)
  • Possession of a recognized degree in a science or health care discipline an asset
  • 2 years of clinical perfusion experience an asset, but recent graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Experience with adult and pediatric cardiopulmonary bypass procedures is an asset
  • Must be able to work under pressure and cope in emergency situations while demonstrating strong teamwork skills
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of self-development in ensuring current and competent service
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in research and quality assurance development
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred 

 

**Where there are no qualified candidates, consideration may be given to those who have successfully completed the didactic portion of a recognized Perfusion program, and are willing to complete the clinical placement within NSH.

Hours

  • Permanent, Full-Time position; 75 hours biweekly
  • 24/7 coverage (including on-site and/or on-call) for IWK, 1st call QEII, 2nd call QEII

Compensation and Benefits

$41.46 - $53.95 hourly
$79,657.50- $100,171.50 annually plus a market adjustment of $384.62 biweekly ($10,000 annually).  Eligibility for a Market Adjustment is reviewed periodically. 

 

OT/Callback is paid out in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
