About the Opportunity
The Social Worker is responsible for clinical assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of prevention and early intervention programming for adolescents at-risk for or who have mild substance use and/or mental health problems. As part of a team, the Social Worker must be knowledgeable and utilize principles from harm reduction, population health, community development, health promotion and prevention, and early intervention. The Social Worker provides a wide range of services in schools and communities, including screening, assessment, supportive counseling, referral, case navigation/management, early/ brief intervention, outreach, and group programming.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work
- Registered with the Nova Scotia College of Social Work
- Two years’ (post BSW) experience working with adolescents at-risk, community resources, harm reduction and substance use
- Experience with interviewing skills, suicide risk assessment and group facilitation
- In-depth and critical understanding of health promotion/ population health framework, harm reduction, community development, strengths-based methods, readiness to change model
- In-depth knowledge of best practices related to screening, brief/early intervention, outreach, and community linkages for youth at-risk for substance use and/or mental health problems
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based health promotion programs and initiatives for youth at-risk for substance use and/ or mental health problems
- Demonstrated awareness of community resources and programs
- Knowledge of Harm reduction and adolescent substance use
- Knowledge of mental health risks and problems for youth
- Knowledge of adolescent development
- In-depth knowledge of patterns of youth substance use and mental health problems, client-related characteristics and an understanding of the challenges faced by youth at-risk for substance use and/ or mental health problems
- Knowledge and experience with brief intervention models such as Motivational Interviewing/ Solution focused models
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours
- Permanent Full Time position; 75 Hours Bi Weekly
- Occasional evening and weekend shifts required.
- Travel to various sites required.
Compensation and Benefits
$33.97 - $42.89 Hourly
