About the Opportunity

Children and youth admitted to Wood Street Centre Residential Treatment present with a wide range of complex behavioural and/or emotional challenges that are addressed through individualized treatment plans. An interdisciplinary team, which includes youth workers, social workers, teachers, registered nurse, psychologist, occupational therapist, behavioural interventionist, clinical director, unit supervisors, and program manager along with a consulting psychiatrist and medical doctor provides stabilization, assessment, and treatment services.

 

The Psychologist is a member of this interdisciplinary team at Wood Street Centre Residential Treatment, providing a range of services to youth, including the assessment, diagnosis, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of a youth’s individual needs, within the scope of the Registered Psychologist. The Psychologist reports to the Manager, Support Services and Community Programs, Northern Zone Mental Health & Addictions.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • Recognized Master's degree in Clinical Psychology or School Psychology
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners (NSBEP) and in good standing
  • A minimum of two years relevant experience, with a strong background in mental health an understanding of the impact of childhood trauma
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of youth with significant emotional and behavioral disorders
  • Demonstrated ability to work competently with children, adolescents, families, groups, community representatives and agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to employ a trauma informed lens to therapeutic interventions
  • Experience in utilizing the ARC model in the provision of therapeutic interventions is considered an asset
  • Strong assessment skills and comfort with diagnostics utilizing DSM5 criteria
  • Competency in psychoeducational assessment is considered an asset
  • Excellent documentation/report writing skills required
  • Ability to establish models of care based on programming needs.
  • Ability to evaluate progress and adapt therapy as required.
  • Strong CBT and DBT skills and ability to deliver DBT skills group and CBT groups for anxiety and depression required
  • Ability to work independently and to work cooperatively on an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to provide and utilize clinical supervision and support
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Compensation and Incentives

$37.31 - $49.05 Hourly

Candidate Registered (step 4): $43.52 Hourly

Masters Registered (steps 5-7): $45.27 - $49.05 Hourly
