Job Description

Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) in Kentville, Nova Scotia is seeking a full-time Anesthesiologist to join our collegial and supportive team of nine other full-time Anesthesiologists.

The VRH is a 137-bed regional hospital that serves as a major surgical referral center for over 200,000 patients living in the Western Health Zone of Nova Scotia.

Our group provides anesthetic services for over 6,000 operating room cases a year. We also deliver support to an obstetrical unit that sees approximately 750 deliveries per year.  We currently run five operating rooms daily.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care and coordination of community-based care, and secondary and tertiary level health care. 
  • Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities
  • Provide anesthesia at VRH for a variety of surgical services including: general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, urology and ENT. There is some care of healthy, low risk pediatric patients. 
  • Participate in our preoperative assessment clinic and acute pain service
  • Participate fully in on call coverage (overnight and weekends)
  • Participate in medical student and resident education
  • Opportunities exist for those interested in providing ICU coverage 
  • Provide support to the Western Zone if required, which includes day-time coverage and occasional overnight/weekend coverage
  • Responsible to the Zone Anesthesia Department Head for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
  • Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority

Expected Hours

  • Permanent Full-Time
  • OR Hours: Monday - Friday 0800-1500
  • Evening and Weekend call coverage (approximately 3-4 calls per month)
  • Flexible and equitable vacation scheduling
