The Department of Psychiatry of Dalhousie University has an excellent opportunity for a family physician (FP) to work at the East Coast Forensic Hospital (ECFH) within the Mental Health Program.

ECFH is the largest psychiatric hospital in the Atlantic region. There are 60 inpatient rehabilitation beds, 24 beds for Forensic Assessment and Correction Treatment (FACT unit). The Model of Care within the service is being developed with exciting opportunities to join a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and modern care delivery based on evidence while monitoring and keeping track of key performance indicators and measured-based care leading to research opportunities.

Job Description

The position involves a unique team approach to inpatient care. Mental Health Hospitalists provide comprehensive, compassionate high-quality care, involving forensic patients at the East Coast Forensic Hospital, as active participants in their overall care. All aspects of the position require the FP to work with multi-disciplinary teams in an enthusiastic manner and to have the capacity for self-direction.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:
• Medical degree and current registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
• Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills
• Ability to maintain clear records of patient evaluations and clinical thought process
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
• Must be eligible for medical staff privileges with the Nova Scotia Health Authority

This is a 0.85 FTE position, with an opportunity for an additional 0.1 FTE with Correction Health Services.

Remuneration commensurate with qualifications and experience and is based upon a highly competitive Alternative Funding Plan.
