About the Opportunity

Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) is seeking a general surgeon to be join the team of five. The role requires a full spectrum of general surgical services appropriate to a secondary care centre, including endoscopy. Regular OR, endoscopy and minor procedure time are offered. Ongoing collaboration with Cancer Care Programs, Endoscopy/peri-operative Programs. The group is willing to provide some surgical assists and can help mentor a new graduate. Physicians have an opportunity to work as a preceptor with medical graduates and residents. 

The successful candidate will transition to take over a retiring physician's patients and continue the ongoing care. Mentorship is available if required. The transition period will begin on September 1, 2025.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • work a full scope of practice as a general surgeon
  • participate in call shifts
  • provide support to your own site and to others in Western Zone if required, which includes day-time coverage and occasional overnight/weekend coverage
  • be responsible to the Zone Department Head for Surgery for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
  • operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of Nova Scotia Health Authority

  • Permanent
  • 1:5 on-call requirement
