Company Description

Nova Scotia Health is seeking expressions of interest for the role of Department Head (DH) for Maternal/Child Health in the Eastern Zone.  Reporting to the Zone Medical Executive Director, the Department Head is responsible for the operations of the Maternal/Child Health resource planning for members of the department. The DH works with M/C Health Site Leads to develop a schedule of physicians to ensure coverage and appropriate medical administration throughout the zone. Consideration would be given for applicants interested in a co-lead position.

Job Description

Role Accountabilities:

  1. Ensure that department members are compliant with the Bylaws and Rules and regulations of the NSHA;
  2. Hold regular department meetings and provide the Zone Medical Executive Director with meeting minutes;
  3. Attend relevant committee meetings as assigned by the Medical Executive Director;
  4. Provide co-leadership along with the Zone administrative director of the zone department for strategic and operational planning and budgeting;
  5. Works with Specialty Site Leads to ensure service continuity is maintained through Department scheduling practices, including but not limited to vacation requests, on-call scheduling, and locum utilization;
  6. Participate in the monitoring of standards, quality, and utilization of resources of the department in the zone;
  7. Provide Performance management for all department members;
  8. Provide complaint and discipline management for department members;
  9. Coordinate medical students and residents in the Zone;
  10. Supports the research agenda within the department;
  11. Participate in any clinical services planning for the Zone/NSHA;
  12. Leads recruitment/retention for the department for the Zone;
  13. Ensures that new hire and onboarding processes are completed with support from the Specialty Site Lead as required;
  14. Organize, along with Organization Performance, regular IMMR for the Department;
  15. Participate in Leadership development.

Qualifications

  • MD licensed in Nova Scotia and privileged with Nova Scotia Health.
  • Evidence of past and ongoing leadership training.

Additional Information

  • Expected Hours: Part-time hours (0.2 FTE)
  • Estimated Annual Salary: 50,000 - 75,000 CAD (TBD by ZMED and # of physicians in Zone)
