Context:

Nova Scotia Health is seeking expressions of interest for the role of Department Head (DH) for Women and Children (W&CH) in the Western Zone.  Reporting to the Zone Medical Executive Director, the Department Head is responsible for the operations of the W&C Departmental Medical Staff in the Zone, in addition to providing strategic and operational planning and service leadership in collaboration with relevant administrative Department leaders.  The DH provides leadership to the W&C Site Leads as well as performance management and physician resource planning for members of the department. The DH works with W&C Site Leads to develop a schedule of physicians to ensure coverage and appropriate medical administration throughout the zone.

Job Description

Role Accountabilities:

  1. Ensure department members are compliant with NSH Bylaws and Rules and Regulations
  2. Conduct department meetings and share minutes with Zone Medical Executive Director
  3. Attend relevant committee meetings as assigned by the Medical Executive Director
  4. Works with Specialty Site Leads to ensure service continuity is maintained through Department scheduling practices, including but not limited to vacation requests, on-call scheduling, and locum utilization
  5. Participate in the monitoring of standards, quality, and utilization of zonal resources
  6. Provide performance management for all department members
  7. Provide complaint and discipline management for department members
  8. Coordinate medical students and residents in the Zone
  9. Support the research agenda within the department
  10. Participate in any clinical services planning for the Zone/NSHA
  11. Lead recruitment/retention for the department for the Zone
  12. Ensure completion of new hire and onboarding processes
  13. Organize, along with Organization Performance, regular IMMR for the Department
  14. Participate in leadership development.

Qualifications

  • MD licensed in Nova Scotia and privileged with Nova Scotia Health
  • Evidence of past and ongoing leadership training with leadership experience preferred

Additional Information

Annual Compensation: $52,500+HST
