The Medicine Portfolio within Nova Scotia Health is responsible for providing oversight and leadership to the more than 3,000 physicians, residents and learners currently working within the organization. Medical Leadership, and the Medical Affairs team work to ensure physicians are empowered to deliver high quality care and ensure that physicians are well represented within the organization.

The Integrated Acute and Episodic Care Network (IAECN) provides Nova Scotia Health with the policy and planning required to support quality care for patients and families. The Network ensures that assigned services are monitored and evaluated, included in the strategic plans of other programs and settings, and supported to achieve efficient and sustainable resource allocation and quality care in accordance with NSHA Mission, Vision and Values, and Strategic Directions.

Job Description

General Responsibilities:

The Medical Co-lead, Integrated Acute and Episodic Care Network Acute Cardiovascular Care Advisory

Council, will provide advice on relevant clinical issues and best practices and support the Network

Manager responsible for the acute cardiovascular care clinical service stream. The Medical Co-lead will

Advise health care staff and any related committees/working groups as required.  The Medical

Co-lead will work under direction and report to the IAECN’s co-leads.

Other responsibilities include: 

• Co-Chair IAECN’s Provincial Acute Cardiovascular Care Advisory Council meetings attending site visits as required, and other working groups/committees as required
• Facilitate and oversee the work of working groups related to the IAECN’s Provincial Acute Cardiovascular Care Advisory Council
• Identifying and planning opportunities for physician engagement as it relates to the work of the IAECN’s Provincial Acute Cardiovascular Care Advisory Council
• Providing content expertise pertaining to the work of the IAECN’s Provincial Acute Cardiovascular Care Advisory Council
• Advising on the design, implementation, and evaluation of Network strategic priorities, initiatives, and frameworks pertaining to the IAECN’s Provincial Acute Cardiovascular Care Advisory Council
• Maintaining a culture of continuous quality improvement through identifying and implementing best practices and quality improvement initiatives, developing/selecting tools, education, and resources for providers, developing metrics and evaluation frameworks for the IAECN’s Provincial Acute Cardiovascular Care Advisory Council
• Contributing to the ongoing development and review of clinical service standards and key performance indicators
• Providing clinical expertise to the Integrated Acute and Episodic Care Network

Term:

This position has a 3-year term with opportunity to renew with the approval of the Integrate Acute and Episodic Care Network (IAECN) co-leads. The term may be reassessed if deliverables of the role are not being met.  With a change in Network structure there may be a call for interest and re-selection of this position, for which the individual in the role would have the opportunity to compete.

Accountability:

The obligations and responsibilities of the Medical Co-lead, Acute Cardiovascular Care Advisory Council, will be reviewed and assessed on an on-going basis by the Senior Medical Director/ Senior Director and the manager of the Integrated Acute and Episodic Care Network. On a quarterly basis, the Medical Co-lead will provide a written summary of work performed relative to general responsibilities.

Salary/hourly/honorarium: $30 000 annual stipend.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Specialist MD (Cardiology) with at least 5 years of clinical experience. Prior leadership training and experience in operations, academic departments, or provincial programs an asset. Training in quality improvement or research is an asset.
