Zone based position within the Central Zone.

Reporting to the Provincial Medical Director, Simulation Learning, the Medical Lead, Simulation Learning serves as Physician Lead and co-lead with the Zone Director, Interprofessional Practice and Learning to advance excellence in the use of simulation education that will enable competency development of learners, physicians, and health care providers while in compliance with the mission, vision, values, goals and strategic priorities of Nova Scotia Health and the Provincial Simulation Strategy.

Job Description

Leadership and Planning

  • Collaborates with and reports to the program Medical Director
  • Serves as Physician Lead and program co-lead with the Zone Director, Interprofessional Practice and Learning to advance excellence in the use of simulation education in accordance with the values, mission and goals of the NSH Provincial Simulation Strategy
  • Represent zonal Medical Staff involved with simulation
  • Reports on simulation activity to the to the program Medical Director, Zone Medical Executive Director and Zone Medical Affairs Lead, where required
  • Ensures that zonal simulation activities, initiatives and medical staff involved in simulation are compliant with the Bylaws, Rules and regulations of the NSH
  • Collaborates and co-leads with the Zone Director, Interprofessional Practice and Learning to strategize, develop and implement a simulation program within the respective zone.

 

Engagement and Collaboration

  • Partners and collaborates with Zonal/ Provincial Simulation Leads/ Directors to integrate and advance simulation-based learning on a zonal level that aligns with the simulation and organizational goals of equity, quality care and patient safety
  • Partners with Zonal/ Provincial Simulation Leads to research, design, implement and evaluate simulation-based education in accordance with healthcare simulation standards and evidence-based principles   
  • Partners with Zonal/ Provincial Simulation Leads to support the recruitment and onboarding of simulation-based Physician educators, as required
  • Partners with Zonal/Provincial Simulation Leads to ensure simulation needs are included in the planning, evaluation, and communication of program and strategy priorities
  • Advises key stakeholders of simulation opportunities and challenges related to simulation-based learning (ZMED, MAL, IPPL, etc.)
  • Serve as required on the NSH simulation advisory committee in accordance with the committee membership and TOR

Implementation, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Supports the development of a simulation framework for Nova Scotia Health
  • Incorporates simulation standards of practice in the design, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based experiences
  • Monitors and evaluates performance results (process and outcomes) against the simulation framework
  • Reports annually on program outcomes and alignment with Nova Scotia Health strategic directions, in collaboration with key stakeholders

 

Professional Development

  • Advocate and champion for Physician simulation-based education
  • Committed to continuing professional development in simulation-based learning and simulation enhanced interprofessional education
  • Participates in Leadership development

Term:

  • This is a 0.2 FTE position
  • The term is 2 years; renewable for one successive term

Qualifications

  • Must be a Physician who is registered and practicing in Nova Scotia.
  • Completed a Simulation Learning Certificate- i.e.: Interprofessional Simulation Facilitation Course or equivalent.
  • Experience in medical education and simulation-based medical training an asset.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
