Job Description
Join the Victoria County Memorial Collaborative in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, as a full-scope family physician working alongside physicians and allied health to provide comprehensive, community-based care. Located within Victoria County Memorial Hospital, the collaborative offers opportunities to practice primary care, contribute to inpatient services, and support urgent care.
Situated in the heart of beautiful Baddeck, Victoria County Memorial Hospital serves the surrounding community through inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care. The site brings together a range of services, including continuing care, rehabilitation, public health, diabetes education, mental health and addictions support, and outpatient dietitian services, alongside specialized clinics such as ophthalmology, foot care, and well-women’s clinics. With a collaborative team environment and opportunities to provide broad-scope rural medicine, the practice offers the chance to make a meaningful impact while enjoying life in a welcoming Cape Breton community known for its stunning scenery, vibrant summer and fall tourism, and growing range of winter activities.
Responsibilities
- provide comprehensive, full-scope primary health care to practice patients of all ages and stages of health and illness
- maintain timely and accurate patient records using a provincially approved electronic medical record (EMR)
- participate in quality improvement, practice evaluation, and other activities that support the delivery of safe, effective, patient-centered care
- attend regular physician and team meetings
- comply with the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, policies, and professional standards of Nova Scotia Health
- partake in continuing medical education (CME) and professional development opportunities
- participate in teaching of medical learners
Expected Hours
- Full-time Equivalency or Part-time available
- 46/52 weeks per year for full-time, office-based providers
Remuneration
- Longitudinal Family Medicine (LFM) contract approximately$375,000 to $400,000 CAD
- Family Physicians in Nova Scotia are compensated based on the LFM payment model or Fee for Service (FFS)

Qualifications
- All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
- All family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)

Facility Information
Baddeck’s Victoria County Memorial Hospital opened in 1949 as a 23-bed Canadian Red Cross operated facility. In 1995, a new hospital was opened. VCMH serves the communities of Baddeck, Englishtown, Little Narrows, and surrounding areas as well as the First Nations communities of Wagmatcook and Waycobah. VCMH serves a population of approximately 5,500 through inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care. The hospital also houses offices for Home Care Nova Scotia, Public Health, addiction services, and adolescent services.
