About the Opportunity

Join a group of seven. Subspecialties include General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Respirology, and Intensive Care. This position is starting in September 2024.


EMR: MedAccess. 
South Shore Regional (SSRH) offers echocardiography, exercise stress testing with nuclear imaging and dobutamine stress testing, pacemaker insertion and follow up, endoscopy (therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy), PFTs and a Sleep Lab. There is a Cardiac Rehab Clinic managed by a Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with Internal Medicine Physicians.


SSRH is a community site for the Internal Medicine program at Dalhousie University with approximately 6-7 residents per year. This provides an opportunity to work as a preceptor with medical students & residents. Incumbent is expected to participate in the call schedule for ICU and IM as well as provide outpatient care appropriate to their subspecialty. Call covers the SSRH along with offering advice and transferring patients from the nearby Fishermen's Memorial Hospital in Lunenburg and Queen's General Hospital in Liverpool.

Compensation is fee for service with flexible vacation time. In addition, specialists receive call stipends and other incentives as available through the Master Agreement of Nova Scotia.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • provide full scope of practice
  • participate in call rotation
  • provide support to your own site but also to others in the Western Zone if required, which included day-time coverage and occasional overnight/weekend coverage
  • be responsible to the Zone Department Head for Internal Medicine for professional responsibilities and quality of practice
  • operate with the Medical Staff Bylaws of Nova Scotia Health
  • participate in teaching both medical students and internal medicine residents and fellows

Expected Hours

Full-time, compensation is fee for service with flexible vacation time. Endoscopy time is quite reasonable, with usually 1.5 days per week available.

Qualifications

Candidates must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or eligible to take the Fellowship Exam in Internal Medicine. Must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
