Finance Controller

Permanent Part Time (.5) 40 hours bi-weekly

We are seeking a compassionate, caring, and resident focused individual who has a passion for long term care.

 

North Queens Nursing Home is a 44-bed Long Term Care Facility located in Caledonia, Nova Scotia. Caledonia is a rural community of Queens County, close to Kejimkujik National Park, and in close proximity to both the South Shore and Annapolis Valley. North Queens Nursing Home considers the needs of our residents as a whole, considering their social, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Finance Controller works collaboratively with management and finance teams and is responsible for the accounting and financial services of the Home in accordance with GAAP.

 

Responsibilities

The Finance Controller is responsible for maintaining the accounting and budgeting system of the Home, maintaining accounting records and preparing accurate and timely financial statements, as well as supporting payroll and pension functions.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Business Administration or Commerce with focus on accounting, with a minimum of three years relevant work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) for non-profit, government funded organizations.
  • Previous relevant experience in a similar health care setting, preferably long-term care, considered an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of business transactions, accounting and laws pertaining to same.
  • Efficient with computer software programs including Hubdoc, Xero, Plooto and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality at all times, respecting the privacy of residents, their families and staff.
  • Must be willing to work as part of a team, as well as independently to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to communicate well with all stakeholders, including but not limited to residents, family members and staff.

Salary: to be determined based upon skills and experience.
