The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Reproductive Mental Health Service, Mental Health and Addictions Program. The Reproductive Mental Health Service (RMHS) provides specialty mental health care to adult pregnant and postpartum women. RMHS provides both inpatient and outpatient comprehensive assessment and treatment initiation to women on referral from community and hospital-based health care providers; including obstetricians, gynecologists, family physicians, pediatricians, maternal and newborn nursing, public health nursing and others.
The RMHS works within an interprofessional team that includes psychiatry, nursing, clinical therapists and social work. This clinical position will have responsibility for the assessment and follow-up treatment of adult women with mental health presentations, within an interdisciplinary team. This position will require strong knowledge and skill in adult interdisciplinary mental health practice and communication sophistication to represent the Service within the IWK Health Centre and the broader community of caregivers. The RMH clinical therapist will be responsible for providing assessments and evidenced based treatment through individual and group-based modalities. The therapist will be involved in team educational activities, clinical rounds and community presentations.
Hours of Work
Monday and Friday (8:30 am to 4:30pm)
Your Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in a clinical health-related discipline (Master’s in Social Work, Psychology, Masters in Counseling, Masters in Nursing, or Masters in Occupational Therapy).
• Current professional registration (in good standing) or eligible for registration with the appropriate association or regulatory body required.
• Clinical training and skills in providing evidence based individual and group-based therapies in the treatment of adult with mental health and substance use challenges and or disorders, required.
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience in providing clinical assessment, treatment planning, intervention, and discharge planning required.
• Minimum two (2) years' clinical experience providing adult mental health care to pregnant and postpartum women.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of standard criteria used (DSM V) for the classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders.
• Demonstrated competence in application of the Choice and Partnership approach (CAPA), required.
• Knowledge and experience working with Measurement Based Care platforms and engaging clients in data collection within their practice.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, suicide and violence risk assessment and intervention.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in collaborating and engaging with families in relation to sharing information and implementing family-sensitive services that involve families/caregivers in the care.
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, ability to take initiative, work independently with limited supervision and participate as a member of an interprofessional team.
• Demonstrated cultural competence and a strong understanding of how the social determinants of health impact on mental/physical health, required.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• High level of written/ oral/ interpersonal communication skills; experience with conflict resolution.
• Ability to work effectively in multiple software applications.
• Non-violent crisis intervention preferred.
• Competencies in other languages an asset.
