About the Opportunity

The Summer Student reports directly to the Health Services Manager. 

 

This position serves as an early recruitment opportunity for students wishing to enter a career in Healthcare.  This summer job will provide students with an exposure to careers in healthcare and workplace culture, while providing an educational experience that promotes mentoring and fosters personal responsibility. It also provides the opportunity to work in a team environment.  
 

Medical Unit specific duties may include:
•    Activities with patients (playing cards, bingo, etc.)
•    Unit stocking
•    Work with walking program as second staff
•    Changing bed linens
•    Meal set up/assistance
•    Transporting patients within hospital via wheelchair as needed
•    Other duties as assigned by unit team lead

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:


 •   Must be enrolled as a full-time student, in the next academic school year, in a secondary school or at a recognized university, community college, technical institute or other post-secondary institution 
•    Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
•    Commitment to maintain and protect patient, client, and personal safety on an ongoing basis
•    Commitment to confidentiality and privacy of Nova Scotia Health patients and clients
•    Access training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available by Nova Scotia Health

Hours

  • Short Assignment Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Beginning May 1/2026  with a duration of August 31, 2026
  • Dates are approximate and subject to change

Compensation and Benefits

Summer Student - Medical Unit

High School – $17.00

High School grad – $20.50

Post secondary grad – $22.00
