About the Opportunity

The Clinical Genetics Technologist (CGT) performs, coordinates and troubleshoots complex molecular tests and assays according to established methodologies and quality assurance techniques to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of genetic disorders. The CGT analyzes blood, bone marrow, body fluids and tissues using a wide range of molecular techniques. The CGT participates in workflow management, inventory control, assay improvements and enhancements and validation of equipment. The CGT maintains laboratory records, computerized databases, assists fellow technologists, contributes to general laboratory maintenance and trains new staff, students and residents. The CGT monitors methods and/or instruments, uses scientific knowledge to interpret outcomes and considers reference ranges and clinical diagnosis before presenting results to the Scientist/Pathologist. The CGT builds successful relationships with others in decision-making, is accountable for professional actions and accepts responsibility for results presented and associated quality management activities.  Working conditions are occasionally stressful requiring the CGT to be tactful, respectful and sensitive. The CGT must demonstrate effective communication and professionalism. The CGT maintains the welfare and confidentiality of patients at all times in accordance with NSHA policy and demonstrates professional conduct in accordance with CSMLS Code of Conduct.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Graduate from an accredited Clinical Genetics diploma program
  • Licensed with NSCMLT and registration with CSMLS
  • A combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered (MLT plus MSc in molecular biology/biochemistry, MSc in molecular biology/biochemistry, etc.)
  • Clinical Genetic Technologist experience an asset
  • Previous experience with LIS (Cerner Millennium) preferred
  • Good judgement required in solving technical problems and assessing validity of results before reporting
  • Considerable mental and visual demands in decision making, calculations using complex instruments and microscopy
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent, Full-Time / 100% / 75 Hours Bi-weekly 

 

Compensation and Benefits

$38.74 - $46.34

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
