About the Opportunity

The Social Worker reports to the Health Services Manager and works with other social work staff, the Interdisciplinary team, and management to plan, deliver, and evaluate a comprehensive social work service, available to in-patient, out-patient and ambulatory care clients, as well as to individuals who refer themselves or are referred from the community. The social worker is governed by the Social Work Act, The Social Worker’s Code of Ethics, and relevant legislation and works collaboratively with other agencies.

 

The duties of the Social Worker will be carried out in accordance with the principles and practices that guide Nova Scotia Health.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW) from an accredited and approved School of Social Work/University Program.
  • License to practice from the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers
  • At least two (2) years of clinical experience; experience in a health care setting is preferable
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources and maintenance of good working relationships with community partners
  • Strong assessment and interviewing skills
  • Ability to formulate, carry out and modify effective treatment plans
  • Personal maturity, sound judgment and the ability to respond professionally and effectively in emotionally charged situations
  • Masters of Social Work Degree an asset
  • Travel to other sites is required and must have access to a reliable vehicle
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
  • Call and shift work required, evenings, nights, and weekends

Compensation and Benefits

Healthcare Social Worker B
$36.58 - $47.35 Hourly

 

Healthcare Social Worker A (Developmental) 
$34.80 - $43.30 hourly
