About the Opportunity
As an overnight pharmacist working at Nova Scotia Health, you will be responsible for the nightly execution of inpatient medication management activities at the QEII sites (HI and VG), including:
• Review medication orders for safety and appropriateness, and verify orders written by prescribers
• Provide drug information and clinical overnight pharmacist support as the on-call pharmacist for non-oncology related issues
• Responsible for drug distribution services in collaboration with Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Practice Assistants
• Communicate with nursing, medical staff, pharmacy team members and management
• Other assignments or duties as required
• Additional responsibilities:
o Comply with all policies and procedures of Nova Scotia Health, laws and regulations and standards of accreditation
o Accurately interpret, assess and where necessary, clarify the prescriber’s medication orders
o Effectively problem solve regarding drug distribution issues as needed
o Identify, follow-up and document adverse drug reactions and medication incidents according to departmental procedures
o Participate in departmental initiatives or other shifts as needed
Pharmacists are responsible for the provision of pharmaceutical care. This entails the responsible provision of drug therapy for the purpose of achieving definite outcomes that improve a patient’s quality of life. Pharmacists also supervise a drug delivery system that integrates the application of the pharmacist’s specialized knowledge with the distribution of the medication to assure optimal medication therapy for the patient.
NOTE: This position will be mainly at Halifax Infirmary but may be scheduled to work remotely or at other campuses as well.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Graduate of a recognized School of Pharmacy
- Eligible for the registration with the Nova Scotia Pharmacy Regulator (NSPR) required
- Completion of a Hospital pharmacy residency program and/or equivalent related direct patient care experience (minimal 2 years) in a hospital setting preferred
- BLS (Basic Life Support) an asset
- Knowledge of medication patient safety therapeutics required
- Knowledge of medication patient safety concepts an asset
- Proven effective oral and written communication skills required
- Experience as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team required
- Ability to prioritize work responsibilities and to work well under time pressures required
- Ability to work independently required
- Demonstrated interest in professional development and lifelong learning required
- Competencies in other languages an asset

- Permanent / Part-Time (50%) / 37.5 Hours Bi-weekly
Compensation and Benefits
$49.42 - $61.74 Hourly
