About the Opportunity

Nova Scotia Health, Atlantic Canada's largest academic health care organization, is recruiting a Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Resident at the QEII Health Sciences Centre site in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Resident will enter a two-year, CAMPEP-accredited training program in radiation oncology medical physics including 14 clinical rotations including a new adaptive treatment rotation, supervised by oncology medical physicists. 

The treatment facility in Halifax includes two GE CT simulators and seven Varian treatment units, including four TrueBeam units, two Ethos units, and one Halcyon unit. All Ethos and Halcyon units are equipped with HyperSight imaging technology. One TrueBeam unit is equipped with ExacTrac stereoscopic imaging and robotic guidance for stereotactic treatments. All TrueBeam units include Developer Mode to support R&D initiatives. A major initiative is broad deployment of adaptive radiotherapy with two Ethos units. One Varian Edge unit will be installed within the coming year. The facility administers an active brachytherapy service equipped with CBCT imaging ring and ultrasound imaging for real-time prostate HDR. External beam and brachytherapy treatment planning are performed with Eclipse and Oncentra, respectively. MRI and PET imaging and cyclotron facilities are also on site.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • PhD in Physics or Medical Physics and completion of core Medical Physics according to CAMPEP graduate education program standards
  • A working knowledge of radiation safety
  • Ability to perform effectively as a multidisciplinary health care team member
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good decision-making skills and the ability to set and follow priorities
  • Show initiative and a sense of responsibility
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
  • Starting in December 2025 for approximately (24) months. Dates are subject to change

Compensation and Benefits

$34.95 - $41.35 Hourly
