About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Public Health Manager, the Knowledge Translation & Communication Specialist provides leadership in knowledge translation and communication advice and services while working within the Health ADAPT: Central Zone Climate Change and Health Vulnerability Assessment project team. The Knowledge Translation & Communication Specialist will also work closely with the Senior Communication Advisors, relevant internal teams, and key external partners. The Knowledge Translation & Communication Specialist is responsible for the synthesis of information, data, and evidence through the application of knowledge translation and mobilization techniques and tools to support comprehensive, evidence-informed strategies in support of the Health ADAPT project.

 

The Knowledge Translation & Communication Specialist brings experience and knowledge to lead knowledge translation/mobilization initiatives within Public Health while working with organizational and community partners. . The role requires an understanding of population and public health and the capacity to apply health equity and social justice objectives and principles to knowledge translation/mobilization approaches. They will work with subject matter experts to design, coordinate, share, and monitor Public Health, Health ADAPT work and information through various channels and digital platforms. The Knowledge Translation & Communication Specialist is accountable to build and support a culture of internal and external knowledge translation, communication and engagement that is timely, sensitive, consistent, and reflective of the goals and objectives of both the portfolio, and Nova Scotia Health.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Analyzes and synthesizes data and evidence from multiple sources to inform knowledge translation/mobilization planning and resource development.
  • Works collaboratively with others to co-produce knowledge and facilitate activities toward shared interpretation of a collection of evidence sources within various contexts.
  • Conducts assessment of impact of public health knowledge mobilization processes and tools using appropriate monitoring and evaluation techniques.
  • Directs the development of knowledge translation plans across public health teams at the organization and program level.
  • Creates knowledge translation and mobilization tools such as data visualization, digital shareables, communication plans and strategies, report layouts, and graphic designs that support public health strategic and project goals.
  • Works with subject matter experts and communications teams to design, coordinate, share, and monitor Public Health work and information through various channels and digital platforms (social media, website, newsletters, NSHA updates, partners, etc.).
  • Understanding and ability to incorporate equity, diversity, inclusion, reconciliation and accessibility concepts and principles across public health.
  • Identifies and engages interest groups in development of knowledge mobilization initiatives relevent to Health ADAPT climate change work

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • Baccalaureate degree in health promotion or equivalent degree as determined by the employer.
  • 3 years of relevant leadership experience and providing strategic, evidence-based decision support with progressive accountabilities for knowledge translation, mobilization, and communication activities within a health-related system required.
  • Experience relevant to climate change preferred
  • Masters degree in a health-related discipline, health administration or related an asset
  • Eligible for registration with relevant health discipline/college of association is an asset
  • Certification or additional training in knowledge translation or relevant field, quality improvement, health communications, design thinking, IAP2, process mapping, projectmanagement and/or change management an asset.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Drivers’ License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Strong knowledge translation skills, including the ability to synthesize complex research findings into clear, accessible formats for diverse audiences, develop tailored messaging strategies and apply evidence informed approaches to effectively bridge the gap between research, policy & practice.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and decision-making skills
  • Proven experience in graphic design and data visualization experience with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging and accessible visual content tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Expertise in knowledge translation and mobilization processes, public health sciences, health equity, health promotion practice and non-communicable disease prevention.
  • Knowledge of best practice related to communications, public relations and engagement.
  • Demonstrated analytic skills, including policy analysis and development skills, interest group analysis, critical thinking and strategic use of data.
  • Demonstrated respect for diverse cultures and uses the strengthen of diversity to bring about innovation and added value in the work environment.
  • Ability to effectively use facilitation skills such as collaboration, negotiation and persuasion, to develop solutions while building and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Expertise in establishing and application of various tools including data visualization, digital shareables, communication plans and strategies, report layouts, and graphic designs and Microsoft 365 applications.

Hours

  • Temporary Long Assignment, Part-time Position, 45 Hours Bi-weekly
  • Approximate term of 18 months (Assignment length subject to change)

Compensation and Benefits

$34.79 - $42.06 Hourly
