The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Inpatient, and Ambulatory Medical Care, under the supervision of the Clinical Leader, the Ward Clerk performs a variety of reception and clerical duties required for the efficient operation of the Pediatric Medical Unit. The Ward Clerk interacts with colleagues, patients, families, students, and the public in a respectful and collaborative manner in keeping with principles of family-centered care and Health Centre standards to meet the needs of women, children, youth, and their families.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Answering phone calls, relaying messages, and referral calls with follow-up as appropriate
- Providing direction to patients, family members, and others as required
- Processing incoming/outgoing mail
- Entering data accurately and in a timely manner
- Delivers specimens to the lab as required
- Enacting transport functions
- Ordering and maintaining supplies
- Computer order entry of lab tests, diagnostic tests, etc.
- Other duties as required

Your Qualifications
• Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a recognized Secretarial or Office Administration Diploma Program is preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar role preferred.
• Demonstrated accurate keyboarding and data entry skills required.
• Working knowledge of Meditech (e.g., PCI, Order entry) required.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Windows, MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, etc) required.
• Demonstrated excellent organization skills, strong communication, and interpersonal skills required.
• Demonstrated strong time management, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills required.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload required.
• Demonstrated initiative; self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision/direction required.
• Demonstrated high regard for quality, accuracy, and attention to detail required.
• Demonstrated ability to work well with others and in an interprofessional team environment is required.
• Demonstrated flexibility to meet workload demands required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Working knowledge of office equipment (e.g., fax machine, photocopier, scanner, etc.) preferred.
• Demonstrated strong customer service skills preferred.
• Knowledge of Access Passport, MedWorxx, and SharePoint is an asset.
• Knowledge of Family Centred Care is an asset.
• Competencies in other languages are an asset.
