About the Opportunity

One Person One Record (OPOR) is a clinical transformation that will improve the delivery of healthcare for patients in our province. Regardless of where a patient accesses care, if they are adults or children, they will benefit from their care teams using consistent, standardized, best care practices, and having real time access to their health information.

 

Nova Scotia is currently undergoing a multitude of groundbreaking digital health transformation projects aimed at revolutionizing healthcare delivery and improving the well-being of its residents.

 

Reporting to the Manager of Communications, OPOR Program, the Communications Advisor is a key member of the OPOR program. The Communications Advisor will provide technical advice and deliver dynamic communication products to ensure achievement of OPOR communications and engagement desired outcomes.  Working closely with colleagues across the program, the position supports the team’s communication and engagement activities that build and strengthen the organizations response to issues, challenges and opportunities that advance the OPOR program in the health system.

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Counsel and Planning

  • Support the planning, development and delivery of communication and engagement initiatives and activities to support the OPOR program and its change management projects.
  • Work with OPOR Program teams to support creation of engagement opportunities to connect healthcare teams members and the OPOR Program.
  • Support the program’s internal communications needs to achieve program priorities.
  • Ensure strategies and activities are based on audience needs, emerging trends and best practice to promote the OPOR vision under the guidance and direction of the OPOR Program
  • Identify, create, and share stories that advance OPOR strategic goals, support the health system’s change agenda and build pride in internal and external communities.
  • Support development of internal communications vehicles and collateral, including content for OPOR website, and more.
  • Participate and contribute to selected internal committees and task forces/ work teams.

 

Capacity & Relationship Building

  • Share best practices in communications and engagement for the sake of change that supports system transformation.  Support opportunities to share knowledge.
  • Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships across the OPOR Program streams and the broader Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health organizations with respect to key audiences – where appropriate and directed by OPOR Program leadership.
  • Support capacity building among internal leaders to communicate and engage openly and with transparency, for the sake of their day-to-day work, involving people in decisions that affect them and furthering the work of the OPOR program.

 

Supporting Responsibilities

  • Work with leaders and government partners to ensure timely responses for some media inquiries and participate in development of communication materials after hours as required.
  • Prepare and participate in team and organizational emergency preparedness exercises and emergency response activities as needed.
  • Contribute to zone-based activities and initiatives as needed to advance OPOR program.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Public Engagement and Communications team, sharing expertise and knowledge as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Communications Director, Corporate Affairs (Western Zone), Public Engagement & Communications and Director, Clinical Engagement, OPOR Program.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

 

  • Undergraduate degree and/or post-secondary study in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Minimum of three years’ relevant experience in the communications and health sectors
  • Knowledge of best practice related to corporate communications, engagement, public relations, graphic design, online engagement
  • Exceptional skills in preparing web, social media, and online engagement strategies with demonstrated success in developing effective content and engaging audiences
  • Demonstrated success in desktop publishing and basic layout design
  • Strategic and system-focused thinking; strong analysis and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication, presentation and organizational skills
  • Experience in planning and coordinating events
  • Experience managing public relations issues and in reputation management
  • Ability to manage projects, delivering on budget and on time
  • Ability to produce dynamic content across a variety of platforms and for a variety of mediums (graphic design)
  • Knowledge and expertise in inbound and digital marketing, audience development and social media
  • Knowledge of IAP2 principles and practices
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Long Assignment, Full-Time / 75 Hours Bi-weekly 
  • September 2025 to September 2027, approximately 24 months (2 years)

Compensation and Benefits

$33.80 - $42.25 Hourly
