About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Community Based Laboratory manager and working collaboratively with the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine management team and medical staff the Laboratory Technical Supervisor is responsible for the efficient, timely, cost-effective quality driven operation of the laboratory services at the Hants Community Hospital and Cobequid Community Health Centre in Central Zone. The Technical Supervisor will be supervising operations at both locations, rotating between locations to ensure an onsite presence. Areas of responsibility included the core laboratory, blood collection services and Point of Care Testing. The supervisor works closely with the leadership team and staff to plan and maintain policies and procedures which will be in congruence with the overall corporate plan as it relates to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The supervisor ensures the provision of rapid, accurate test results by effectively deploying staff in the performance of routine, emergency and specialized testing and the operation of equipment. The supervisor consults with and responds to customers (patients, physicians, hospitals, nursing units and other internal and external clients), regarding delivery of services. The Supervisor participates in short and long-term planning responsibility, including planning for new, revised or expanded service. The Supervisor performs administrative functions such as scheduling, time capture and approval of overtime and vacation.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Graduate of an approved program in Medical Laboratory Science or MSc. in relevant discipline.
- Must be licensed with NSCMLT
- Certification with CSMLS is required
- Medical Laboratory Technologist with four (4) years progressively more responsible experience in a laboratory, plus completion of a management program or commitment to successfully complete a management program in three years and/or a combination of education, training and progressively more responsible experience
- Previous management experience and direct supervision of staff in a laboratory setting is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills
- Excellent organization and decision-making skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential
- Previous experience in a core lab setting preferred
- In-depth knowledge of Cerner Laboratory Information System (LIS), as related to the function of the Core lab preferred
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
- Access to a reliable form of transportation, travel is required

- Permanent, Full-Time position, 75 hrs bi-weekly
Compensation and Benefits
$37.61 - $49.97 Hourly
