About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Resident Care Manager – within the Rehabilitative, Seniors and Long-Term Care portfolio, the Behaviourist works in close collaboration with the managers, department Clinical Nurse Lead, department Clinical Nurse Educator, Access and flow department and Direct Care staff, participating in an initial assessment of individuals in hospital expressing responsive behaviors to assist in determining appropriateness for placement in NSH Eastern Zone long term care placement. The Behaviourist also works along with the Long-Term Care team to develop behavioural treatment plans, provide behavioural interventions and education for residents, their caregivers and other health professionals. In collaboration with the Recreation Therapist, the Behaviourist will also provide education, direction and coaching to the Therapeutic Recreation Associates in NSH Eastern Zone Long Term Care.  

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related health care discipline (i.e., occupational therapy, or recreation therapy) from an accredited program
  • Diploma in Behavioral Intervention from an accredited institution Required
  • Three (3) years’ experience working with providing behavioral based interventions
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to provide functional behavioral assessments and planning of and implementation of treatment plans
  • Demonstrated ability to provide education to residents, their caregivers and other health professionals regarding the implementation of individualized behavior treatment plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based standards and practices for behavioral intervention for seniors
  • The behavioural interventionist must be able to work collaboratively and cooperatively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and have demonstrated willingness to work independently, while receiving supervision, within a flexible work schedule and environment.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary team conferences and participates in the overall development of the patent/residents’ treatment plans
  • Facilitates the monitoring of outcomes relevant to the treatment goals.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Long Assignment, Full-Time position; 75 hours Bi-weekly
  • Approximately 12 months
  • Evenings may be required
  • Must have access to reliable transportation

Compensation and Benefits

$35.86- $46.87 Hourly
