The Opportunity

IWK Health Pediatric Learning Health System (Peds-LHS), in collaboration with Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP; kidsinpain.ca), are seeking a dedicated healthcare professional who has a passion for improving pediatric pain management to join a dynamic multi-disciplinary team who is working to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice. This role will be integral to advancing pediatric pain management across the Maritimes and beyond by coordinating and collaborating with healthcare professionals and other interested parties within a Peds-LHS. The Specialist will lead initiatives aimed at enhancing quality improvement in children’s pain in rural, community, and regional health centers, including championing ChildKind International certification (childkindinternational.org) and The Comfort Promise, developing a plan to implement the Pediatric Pain Management standard (CAN/HSO 13200:2023), being a part of the development of a Learning Health System at the IWK and championing sustainability of ChildKind International certification at the IWK. The ideal candidate will be passionate about improving pediatric healthcare through pain management and committed to fostering collaboration among community/regional hospitals and healthcare centers. This position will be part of a team committed to advancing pediatric pain management in the Maritimes and across Canada and dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of children, youth, and their families. Funding has been secured to support this role for a minimum of 4 years with additional funding to be secured following the position’s success in achieving short-, medium-, and long-term deliverables and demonstrating local, regional, and national impact.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Collaborate with SKIP, IWK, and Peds-LHS partners, including patients and families, to enhance pediatric pain management capacity in the Maritimes.
  • Build, engage, and maintain relationships healthcare professionals and other parties of interest in rural and urban settings across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and PEI.
  • Coordinate the implementation of the Pediatric Pain Management standard and Comfort Promise principles across the region, within local institutions within the Maritime context, including evaluation and sustainability planning.
  • Collaborate nationally with SKIP, in the development of an accreditation process for the standards.
  • Engage with in rural and urban settings to promote quality improvement initiatives in pediatric pain management.
  • Facilitate the establishment of local and national learning collaboratives focused on pediatric pain management in collaboration with SKIP.
  • Support regional healthcare sites in engaging with focus on pediatric pain management and fostering a culture of learning and improvement.
  • Ensure that an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens is present throughout activities.
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of implemented strategies and practices, in collaboration with SKIP and established research teams.
  • Lead annual reporting and impact
  • Deliver presentations and training sessions to educate healthcare professionals in related areas.

Hours of Work

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours week; some travel may be required

Your Qualifications

  • Master's or other advanced degree in a relevant healthcare field (e.g., Nursing, Psychology, Physiotherapy, Public Health, etc.).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in pediatric healthcare with knowledge of current best practices in pediatric pain management.
  • Strong understanding of related and intersecting fields, including complex health systems change, implementation science, knowledge mobilization/translation, and quality improvement and evaluation, and healthcare system dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multi-disciplinary teams in collaborative environments.
  • Demonstrated change management and quality improvement experience.
  • Excellent facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse partners.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data collection, evaluation, and impact reporting.
  • Previous experience working with standards and accreditation processes an asset.
  • French language skills an asset.
