About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the Respiratory Therapist will  perform diagnostic breathing tests on patients to determine lung function. These tests allow the physician to monitor the severity of impairment, disease progression, course of treatment and assess occupational suitability for professions requiring excellent cardio-pulmonary health. In addition, pulmonary technologists perform cardio-pulmonary stress tests and bronchial provocation testing. The Respiratory Therapist will also assist with bronchoscopy procedures in the Pulmonary Unit.  Other major responsibilities include preceptor for Respiratory Therapy students and other health care professionals, calibration and quality control of all equipment and active participation in various research projects.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Successful completion of a Respiratory Therapy program from an accredited institution
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care Exams
  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Respiratory Therapists
  • Eligible for registration with Canadian Association of Cardio-Pulmonary Technologists (CACPT) required. Successful challenge of the CACPT exam is required within 2 years of commencing employment
  • Current certification in BCLS and ACLS
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, on a consultative basis, within the health care team
  • Demonstrated competency in skills necessary to provide services for respiratory care
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be available for stand-by as required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent, Full-Time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly 

Compensation and Benefits

$32.43 - $40.66 Hourly
