The Opportunity

Reporting to the Division Head of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (or delegate), the Data System Abstractor will assist with data collection/management of the Nova Scotia Perinatal Follow-Up Program (PFUP) database. The provincial PFUP is dedicated to the care and monitoring of babies born very prematurely, with a very low birth weight or who experienced known or suspected brain injury at birth. The PFUP database collects maternal, perinatal, neonatal as well as long-term developmental outcomes for these children.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain accurate and complete data
  • Assist in data retrieval and preparation of audits and reports
  • Ensure work time is managed effectively and efficiently
  • Ensure privacy and confidentially of all processes, including data storage 
  • Participate in departmental and national working group committees, as requested
  • Prepare charts for bi-weekly PFUP clinics 
  • Enter PFUP data into ORACLE database
  • Coordinate and provide ORACLE training to appropriate clinical staff 

Hours of Work

Monday- Friday; 0800-1600

Your Qualifications

  • Graduate of approved Health Information Management Program or Health Profession preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office (Access, Word, Excel, Outlook) required
  • Willing to complete on-site training in ORACLE database required 
  • Training & experience in abstracting & coding Obstetrics, Neonatology health records preferred 
  • Knowledge of Medical terminology required
  • Knowledge of Meditech preferred
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and within context of health care team
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task required
  • A combination of equivalent education and experience may be considered
