The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Mental Health and Addictions, the Operations Manager will provide collaborative leadership in managing the physical, financial and human resources consistent with the mission, strategic plan, goals and objectives of the IWK Health Centre.  The Operations Manager will liaise effectively with the medical, administrative, professional and support staff, to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Program and high quality accessible patient care services.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  participates and/or leads committees associated with the work of the care team(s) and the Health Centre; monitors and evaluates patient care standards and makes recommendations and/or takes action to effect necessary change; collaborates with the manager around human resources  required, works in collaboration with quality facilitators to ensure quality improvement and risk management activities are coordinated in an efficient and effective manner; mentors team members by supporting, teaching, role modeling and coaching in an effective manner; coordinates the performance evaluation reviews for all staff; manages performance issues on an ongoing basis in accordance with Health Centre policy; manages day to day operational expenditures of the care area(s) in a fiscally prudent manner; reviews fiscal performance data to monitor expenditures, analyze trends and develop strategies to address, in consultation with the Clinical Manager; coordinates the purchasing of capital equipment, auxiliary amenities and supplies to ensure requirements are met; participates in the completion of variance reports for review by the Director.  The Operations Manager deals with site physical plant issues, development and oversight of site specific protocols and site representation on Health Centre wide committees and working groups.  Occasionally there will be project work assigned for the MHA portfolio.

Hours of Work

Monday – Friday; 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (flexible)

Your Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in a health related field required.
  • Current registration with the appropriate licensing body of Nova Scotia required.
  • Masters level preparation is considered an asset.The successful candidate is expected to undertake advanced level study within a specific time frame.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in a related clinical role required.
  • Two to three (2-3) years related leadership experience required.
  • Knowledgeable in the concepts of program-based care, trauma informed care and patient-family centred care required.
  • Experience in building teams and maintaining healthy work environments required.
  • Experience in leading and managing healthcare services considered as asset.
  • Experience in people management required.
  • Demonstrated competence in process improvements and project management.
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic planning and financial oversight.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills required.
  • Competency in other languages an asset.
