About the Opportunity
Nova Scotia Health is currently accepting applications for Physician Assistant with the Emergency Department at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. These exciting new positions with Nova Scotia Health are assisting in transforming healthcare delivery and patient care throughout our province. As a member of the team, the Physician Assistant (PA) will report to the Primary Supervising Physician and will provide clinical services under the direct supervision of Emergency Department attending Physician. This position will offer the PA the opportunity to work to full scope of practice.

Cumberland Regional Hospital is location in Amherst, NS, which is less than 10 minutes from the New Brunswick boarder. Candidates could choose to live on either side of the boarder, with a short highway drive to our facility. Many of our employees live in New Brunswick and travel to our facility daily.

Physician Assistant Responsibilities
- Obtain health history as appropriate, including patient demographics
- Conduct comprehensive and focused physical assessments and interpret findings
- Utilize primary and secondary assessment results to formulate a differential diagnosis and determine if further clinical investigation is required
- Order preliminary diagnostic testing and follow-up; with interpretation of results
- Formulate a treatment and management plan based on assessment and investigation results, availability of services and special needs of patient
- Implement effective treatment plans that include preventive and therapeutic interventions, demonstrating appropriate procedural skills, as determined by the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants Scope of Practice and National Competency Profile, and the supervising physician
- Collaborate with and seek appropriate consultation from the supervising physician and other health professionals involved in the patient’s care

Compensation
- $46.36 - $61.60 hourly ($90,402 - $120,120 annually)
- This position is currently eligible for an additional 2% temporary market adjustment, which is reflected in the above compensation
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Graduate of or currently enrolled in an accredited recognized Physician Assistant program in Canada or the United States
- Certification through the Physician Assistant's Certification Council (PACC) or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Eligible for license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons Nova Scotia
- Membership with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants
- Medical Liability Insurance required
- Must have recent emergency medicine experience
- The following certifications or willingness to obtain
- ACLS, PALS, ATLS
- Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, patient assessment and telecommunications skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
