Pharmacists provide patient care by dispensing medication and providing information about drugs and their use. Pharmacists also provide health education, optimize medication therapy, provide medication counselling or management, as well as ensure drug safety. 

Steps to becoming a licensed pharmacist in Nova Scotia.

Step 1
Complete a Pharmacy program

To become a licensed pharmacist, you must complete a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy.

However, if you are more interested in research or teaching you may pursue a Master of Science, post Doctor of Clinical Pharmacy, or other post-graduate study. 

Step 2
Complete practical training

Practical training and experience, under the supervision of a pharmacist is required. Practical training will likely involve 20 weeks of structured practice experience, and an additional 560 hours of unstructured practice experience.

Step 3
Register as a Pharmacist in Nova Scotia

Apply to register as a pharmacist in Nova Scotia. Please note the various options—as a Nova Scotian applicant, an applicant from another Canadian jurisdiction, or as an international applicant. For more information, the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists provides detailed information
