Pathway for Licensure for Paramedics from New Zealand and Australia

Your journey to practicing in Nova Scotia starts here. This  streamlined licensure pathway that gets you working and living here sooner.

You are eligible for this streamlined pathway if you: 
Obtained your paramedic degree in Australia or New Zealand
AND
Hold and active paramedic license/registration in good standing in Australia or New Zealand

Note: Students in the final year of their paramedicine degree would be eligible once they complete their program and register with the Paramedicine Board of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or the Paramedicine Council of New Zealand

The steps are summarized here for Australian/New Zealander educated degree paramedics to obtain a Restricted Advance Care Paramedic license with the provincial regulator, Nova Scotia Regulator of Paramedicine (NSROP)

Step 1

Complete the NSROP Initial Registration and Licensure Application form

Step 2

Submit the $200 application fee

Step 3

Provide proof of legal name and identification

Step 4

Submit verification of Registration/Licensure with AHPRA/Paramedic Council of New Zealand

Step 5

Complete a criminal record check through CSI

Step 6

Provide copy of Diploma and/or transcript from your educational institution

Step 7

Submit resume detailing your employment and education history including paramedicine and any other regulated health care experience you have

Step 8

Provide an employment verification from any current or former paramedicine employers

Step 9

Complete a self-assessment tool of your competencies against the CPNS’ Essential Competencies profile for ACPs

Step 10

Obtain your report from NSROP outlining any competencies requiring bridge training

Step 11

Obtain documentation for NSROP outlining eligibility for Restricted ACP licensure upon arrival to Nova Scotia
