Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT)

Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) assist in the diagnosis of illness or disease. MLTs can perform blood, urine, and tissue specimen laboratory tests. Their specialized training enables MLTs to operate laboratory equipment, conduct quality control procedures, and analyze test results.

Step 1
Complete an MLT program

Step 2
Write the national MLT exam

After completing an accredited program, you will be eligible to take the national Medical Laboratory Technology exam. Learn more about the exam and its process with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science.

Step 3
Apply to be registered and licensed

After you have successfully completed an accredited program and the national exam, you can now apply to become registered and licensed in Nova Scotia. Your licence is required to work as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) in Nova Scotia. Apply to the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NSCMLT) for your MLT licence.
