Step 1
Complete a Health Information Management Professional program

Complete a Health Information Management (HIM) Program

Health Information Management Programs are offered across Canadaonline, and at NSCC in Halifax. 

Step 2
Obtain National Certification

Graduates are eligible to write the National Certification Exam (NCE) administered by the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM).

Successful completion of this exam allows you to earn the Certified in Health Information Management (CHIM) designation.

Step 3
Join the Professional Association (Optional)

After obtaining your CHIM designation, you may choose to become a member of the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
Membership is not a licensing requirement in Nova Scotia but can support professional development and career advancement.
