"What I love about my job is being able to use my skills to help patients reach a diagnosis and ultimately improve their health. Ultrasound is an important diagnostic tool that's used on many parts of the body. This versatility makes for a job that never gets boring. I also love the people I work with at Valley Regional Hospital. These kind and intelligent people have become some of my closest friends."

Licensing for sonographers applying from the U.S.

Before applying for a sonographer position in Nova Scotia, you’ll need to be licensed with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCMIRTP). For U.S.-trained sonographers, this typically involves credentialing through Sonography Canada’s Alternate Pathway, completing required national exams and a Canadian clinical skills assessment, and meeting language and work authorization requirements. You’ll also complete a brief jurisprudence module as part of registration. We recommend starting the licensing process early to allow time for assessments—and our team is here to help guide you through each step.
