A place to practice medicine. A place to belong: North Queens, Nova Scotia
Build a family practice at the heart of one of Nova Scotia’s most welcoming rural communities.
Build a family practice at the heart of one of Nova Scotia’s most welcoming rural communities.
North Queens offers a rare opportunity for a U.S.-trained family physician seeking a more connected way to practice and live. Here in Caledonia, you’ll have the chance to build a deeply rewarding rural family practice, supported by a collaborative care team, strong provincial incentives, and one of Canada’s simplest pathways to licensure for U.S. physicians. It’s an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of patients and families while enjoying the lifestyle, beauty, and nature Nova Scotia is known for.
At the North Queens Community Health Centre, you’ll join an established family practice serving Caledonia and the broader North Queens region. You’ll work in close collaboration with two nurse practitioners and a family practice nurse, supported by weekly lab services, diabetes education, continuing care, and foot clinic access. This is a community-centred health hub, operated by a local board that plays an active and supportive role in the wellbeing of residents and providers alike. For the right physician, this is a chance to become a trusted presence in the lives of patients of all ages—and a valued member of an appreciative rural community.
Nova Scotia was the first province in Canada to offer a direct pathway to full medical licensure for U.S. physicians who’ve completed their American board exams. Royal College certification is not required, and enrolment in the appropriate U.S. continuing professional development program is accepted in place of Canadian maintenance programs. The result? A faster, more straightforward route to licensure with fewer barriers, so qualified U.S. physicians can begin practicing with confidence.
Here, your mornings begin with quiet roads, fresh air, and a short drive to the clinic—not traffic and long commutes. Outside of work, life opens up: lakes, trails, forests, and welcoming community spaces are all close at hand. And while North Queens offers the peace and pace of inland rural living, Nova Scotia’s coastline is never far away. The ocean, beaches, and seaside towns that define life in this province remain part of your everyday world. This is a place where neighbours know one another, children have room to roam, and family life, nature, and community can take their rightful place alongside a fulfilling medical career.
This opportunity offers the chance to make a difference in the health of an entire community while remaining connected to the strength of a broader provincial system. At the North Queens Community Health Centre, you’ll build lasting relationships with patients and families in your community. At the same time, you’ll be part of the wider Nova Scotia Health network—a province-wide system that includes 41 hospitals, clinics, and community programs, supported by more than 22,000 healthcare professionals. Here, the work is deeply personal, and also professionally connected. You’ll have the autonomy of rural practice with the resources, collaboration, and opportunity of a larger health network.
