The Provincial locum program is designed to support physicians in rural communities. The program offers contracts to family physicians to provide coverage to other family physicians who have a scheduled vacation, CME, maternity leave, medical leave, or unplanned leave due to illness.
Physicians are contracted to provide locum services for a specified duration and may be eligible to receive daily minimum guarantee (minimum of $1,200/day), per diem payment, some travel expense coverage, and office overhead. The locum program is administered by Medavie Blue Cross on behalf of the Government of Nova Scotia.
