Paramedics provide medical care in responding to emergency calls such as sudden illness, accidents, and natural disasters. In addition to providing transportation to medical facilities, the role of paramedics is to assess and stabilize individuals while also communicating with emergency responders and other healthcare providers.

Step 1
Complete a Paramedicine program

To become a Paramedic (Primary Care Paramedic or “PCP”) in Nova Scotia after high school, complete a paramedic training program approved by the College of Paramedics of Nova Scotia (CPNS). This typically takes 50 weeks. Examples of this program include:

Step 2
Take the PEPE

Once you graduate from a paramedic program approved by the College of Paramedics of Nova Scotia (CPNS), you are eligible to take the Provincial Entry to Practice Exam (PEPE).

Step 3
Apply for licensure

If you pass the PEPE, you may apply for your full Paramedics licence with the college of Paramedics of Nova Scotia (CPNS).
